The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reported that 97.38 of the Rs. 2000 currency notes are back in the system.
A few years back, the Indian government had banned some old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. It wanted people to deposit these old notes back into banks. At that time, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had also brought new Rs 2000 notes.
Recently, the RBI looked at how many of those new Rs 2000 notes did people deposit back into banks. The RBI found that 97.38% of the Rs 2000 notes are back in the banking system. This means most people did deposit these notes into their bank accounts.
Only 2.62% of Rs 2000 notes never came back to banks. This is quite low. When older Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes were banned, a higher percentage of notes did not come back.
The RBI report shows that most people did follow government rules and deposited their Rs 2000 notes into banks. This is good news as it means the banking system has proper records on these notes.
In simple words:
– A few years back old Rs 500 & Rs 1000 notes were banned Â
– RBI had introduced new Rs 2000 notes at that time
– Now RBI report shows 97% of Rs 2000 notes were deposited back into banks
– This means most people followed rules and gave these notes back to banks Â
– It is good that the banking system has records on where these notes are
